Failed to pass TPC-H benchmark

Hi Mapd team,

To make a report for mapd performance, yesterday I ran TPC-H queries on MapD. But unfortunately it only pass Q1 and Q6. Could you give some advice about what possible reason cause these errors?(Maybe some of them are known issues, I don’t know)
Do you have plan to completely support TPC-H queries?

My test environment is:

  • A desktop with 4 video cards(Nvidia K80) and 128G memory
  • Unbuntu16 OS
  • 1GB data for test

I got different errors during the test:

  • Q2,Q17------Exception: ERROR-- Exception occurred: type not serializable: [$cor0]
  • Q3,Q4,Q5,Q7,Q10,Q12-----Exception: Hash join failed, reason: Could not build a 1-to-1 correspondence for columns involved in equijoin
  • Q8, Q11,Q18------mapd-server crash
  • Q9,Q19------Exception: Hash join failed, reason: No equijoin expression found
  • Q13------Exception: Multi-way join not supported
  • Q14------Exception: Overflow or underflow
  • Q15------No rows returned.
  • Q16------Exception: Cannot use a fast path for COUNT distinct
  • Q17,Q20,Q21,Q22------Exception: ERROR-- Exception occurred: type not serializable: [$cor0]

Hi Michael.

Thanks for your keen interest in MapD, you obviously have put some serious time in rewritting the TPC-H queries to get them to run with MapD.

I assume you are running with SF1 if you have 1G of data?

Also would it be possible for you to share the exact SQL of the queries you executed,

We have to rewrite a number of the queries to get then to execute with MapD (especially the INTERVAL once as currently we do not support INTERVAL)

Once I have your queries we can work through the issues with the sql or MapD :slight_smile:

Yes, I do rewrite TPD-H queries. I ran both SF1 and SF5, neither of them can pass those queries except Q1 and Q6. The data is generated by ‘dbgen’ tool which is downloaded from tpc official website: http://www.tpc.org/tpc_documents_current_versions/current_specifications.asp
